As the busiest port on the Canadian side of the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence Seaway navigation system, the Port of Hamilton plays an integral role in supporting trade between Canada and the U.S. as well as overseas destinations. With thousands of jobs dependent on the cargo that is transported in and out of this port, one 12-person maintenance team is responsible for ensuring a variety of buildings, warehouses and infrastructure remain in good working order year-round.

At Toronto's MainTrain Nov. 19, 2012, Shane Turcott from Steel Image talked about how metallurgical failure analysis needs more attention in the maintenance community — and why it's important.
At this year's Toronto Maintrain, Dr. Andrew Jardine with the University of Toronto talked about evidence-based asset management. He explains why it's important to inspect protective devices in plants regularly, and he brings in examples like life buoys and defibrillators to drive the point home.
