Welcome to the PEM E-Newsletter!
PEM has new and improved Web site!
PEM is proud to announce the launch of its new and improved Web site (www.pem-mag.com). We've re-designed the site to be more user friendly. New online features include:
• PEM issues from 2007, 2006 and 2005 are archived as PDFs for your viewing and downloading.
• You also can search for editorial topics from past PEM issues (i.e. type in “bearings” and hit “Go”).
• PEM e-newsletters from 2007, 2006 and 2005 are archived as electronic files for your viewing.
•
New buttons have been added that offer a listing of calendar of events,
key associations and training links to help you on the job. These
information buttons will be updated regularly.
• We’re really excited about the new “Ask the Experts”
button feature. You can email leading industry experts and ask your
questions. Participating experts include David Berger (CMMS), Ken
Bannister (lubrication) and Paul Frisk, FLIR Systems (thermography).
Check the PEM Web site often—as we’ll continue to add more experts!
•
A new careers button offers companies and job seekers a tremendous
opportunity to connect. If you would like to post a job listing, please
contact PEM Associate Publisher Mike Rightmyer at tel: (905) 726-4665; email: mrightmyer@clbmedia.ca. If you want to better your career—check this Web site feature on a regular basis for the latest industry jobs.
• The site offers complete access to all the information you’ll need about PEM (i.e. contacts and editorial contributors).
• You can read all of the top stories from the PEM June (30th Anniversary) issue.
• Latest industry news and hot products also will be updated regularly on the site.
•
Click on the Blog button and you can connect with maintenanceÂ
professionals in the U.S. and around the world via MaintenanceForums.com (part of the ReliabilityWeb.com network).
We hope the new PEM
Web site better meets your online needs. We want your feedback. Please
let us know if you have any suggestions. Also starting in August, our
e-newsletters will have a new look and format. It’s our goal to be your
number one source of information—both in print and electronically!
Cheers,

maintenance excellence. This year, the winning maintenance team will
receive a NEW infrared camera from FLIR Systems Canada, so send in your submission today!

Canada. "We realize the importance of encouraging maintenance
reliability success and giving back to the industry."

PEM 2007 Maintenance Awards
Canadian Tire and the City of Mississauga were named winners of the PEM 2006 Maintenance Awards. Now it's your turn to stand in the industry spotlight!
Being
named a winner of the awards offers many benefits. For example, the
winning maintenance team receives one free pass to the MainTrain 2007
conference in Toronto. The team also will receive a new InfraCam SD
infrared camera (retail value $7,765) from FLIR Systems Canada, a
plaque and a follow-up story in PEM. It's a win-win scenario all round.
There's
another advantage: you help to foster maintenance team goodwill and
achievement. You can't put a price tag on that. Here's a good example.
At the MainTrain 2006 conference in November, all 100+ members of the
Canadian Tire maintenance team proudly rushed forward to accept their
plaque with their manager (Ken Desloges).
If you
still need convincing, I'm sure the folks at Canadian Tire and the City
of Mississauga will tell you that their involvement in the awards
program was a positive and rewarding experience!
PEM 2007 Maintenance Award Guidelines
We're now calling for PEM 2007 Maintenance Award submissions. Here are general guidelines for the awards:
• How big is your maintenance department? Tell us about your operating structure.
• Why is your maintenance team better than the rest (i.e. quality, innovation and performance)?
• Tell us about a maintenance team success story.
• What kind of maintenance best practices and tools are you using and why?
• How have you reduced asset management costs and improved equipment uptime?
• What kind of return on investment (ROI), equipment reliability and production capacity improvements have been achieved?

Product Focus
Industrial wet/dry vacuums
Ridge Tool Co.
introduced its new line of RIDGID industrial two-stage wet/dry vacuums,
which are designed specifically for clean up of heavy debris and
liquids. Two models are available: offering a 14-gallon (Model No.
RV2400A) and 16-gallon (Model No. RV2600B) drum. The stronger, quieter
RV two-stage proprietary motor series and its blower wheel are designed
to handle heavy debris and liquid more quickly and efficiently, says
the company. A three-layer pleated filter has a large surface area for
increased motor efficiency and long life, says the company. The two
models convert to a blower, with 150-mph blowing velocity. Both models
feature a rugged polypropylene drum, which is impact and corrosion
resistant, as well as a durable two-layer ProHose that's 10-feet long.
Combined with the vacuums' longer, 25-foot power cord, users can cover
more of the job site, says the company. An automatic suction shut-off
function senses and prevents liquid overflow, and the integral plug
makes draining the vacuum quick and easy, says the company. Each model
comes with an attached tool bag on the extended cart handle and the
16-gallon model has special non-marring wheels and a steel tool/wand
collection. A variety of accessories are available for both models. www.rigid.com
