Modicon Advance Program helps out Alcan facility

TORONTO-Schneider Electric says Alcan's Grande Baie, QC, primary aluminum production facility recently migrated from the Modicon 800 series to Quantum PLCs, through its Modicon Advance Program (MAP). Designed to support Schneider Electric's installed base of Modicon customers with technical expertise, service and support, MAP's goal is to ensure that customers' systems are performing at optimal levels. This five-step process entails replacing the 800 series rack with a swing-arm, back-plate assembly and Quick-Fit cables.

"The MAP program instructions were very easy to follow," says M. Gervais Gauthier, electrical/instrumentation technician, Groupe Alcan Primary Metals, Grande Baie Plant. "The swing-arm assembly and quick-fit cables reduced upgrade time by almost 16 hours. This is a significant savings in time for these types of upgrades."

Gauthier also appreciates the fact that the migration didn't cause a loss in production. "This system is a fast and efficient way to migrate the 800 Series to the Quantum platform."
